Playing with natural light and Light painting.

Hi,

OK so I have been pretty rubbish at updating recently.
After the lesson on using light I had a practice at home using our daughter as the subject. These were all using natural light and I love how they have turned out.

Back at college we had a practise with the light painting outside. I was much happier with the shoots I took this time.
This photo is two photographs merged together in photoshop and the levels altered slightly. I am really pleased with this.

Week 5 - Portrait Photograph

Hi,

Ok so week 5 was portrait photography. These are using ambient lighting as it was dark when we went out to shoot. I am quite happy with how these turned out.

Week 4 - Aperure

Hi,

Ok so I am very behind with my posts, this is from week 4!
We were practicing with aperture. These are a few of my favourite shoots.

Practise with my camera

Hi,

We were at a Christening this weekend so I actually had a chance to practise with my camera.
These are a few of my favourite photos. With most of these I was focusing on getting a good composition and correct exposure.

Using the tree to frame the church 1/200 f/14
Leading lines 1/400 f/4.5
Leading Lines 1/640 f/4.5

Photography Course - Week 3 Light Painting

Hello,

Ok so week 3 was all about light painting. Honestly not many of my shots turned out great today. I was quite disappointed. I think I had set the camera up correctly but I was using the torch on my phone and it was lighting my object up to much to get any good shots.

These two turned out ok.

We uploaded some photos to photoshop to edit today. Unfortunately as most of my shots did not turn out great I struggled to edit mine together.

Well hopefully I will do better next week!

Nicki.

Photography Course - Week 2 Shutter Speed & Exposure Task

Hi,

So the second week of the course is here already!
I have had a little practise with the ISO from last week, mainly just taking photos of our daughter.

Today was all about shutter speed and getting the correct exposure. I have played with shutter speed before (usually using the shutter speed mode on the camera though) Most of the photographs I took were using a low shutter speed as the light conditions were not great for fast shutter.
Exposure was really interesting and something I have never changed (as I did not know how!) I am hoping now that in the future all of my photographs will be correctly exposed.
There are a lot of different aspects to remember when using the manual setting but I think I am getting there and I am very pleased with some of the results.

These are a few of my favourite shoots from this week.
This is my favourite of all the shots I took as I managed to capture all three colours on the traffic lights. This was taken using a shutter speed of 20 seconds, aperture of f20 and ISO of 100

I really enjoyed taking these and I am very happy with how they turned out. Looking forward to next weeks lesson.

Photography Course - Week 1 ISO Tasks

Hello and thank you for taking the time to have a look at my blog,
Ok so this is my first blog, Where to start.... I am 26, married and have a beautiful 6 month old daughter.
My husband and I enjoy taking photos, usually on holiday, days out or family events and obviously now we take a lot of photos of our daughter. I love looking at photographs and the emotions they can arouse so I have enrolled on a photography course at King Edward College, and I am in the process of completing an online photography course as well, with the hope that I can learn how to capture some amazing shots.

These are a few shoots that I have taken over the last year that I am really pleased with. (these were obviously all before I started any photography courses)

The first class at college was about getting used to our DSLR cameras and experimenting with ISO and composition. Now I am pretty familiar with our camera (although I do always have the instruction book in the bag just in case!) however I will admit that while I will change shutter speeds and aperture I leave the ISO on auto. So experimenting with this and seeing the effect it has on the final image was interesting and fun.

We had a go in the room so we all knew how to change the ISO and could see the results, then we went outside and had to take our own photographs changing the ISO but trying to use some composition techniques we had discussed.

With these photographs I was trying to use the rule of thirds. I am quite pleased with how these turned out.

With these I was using an "up close" composition. I like how they turned out and think it has picked out some good detail.

These are my favourites of all the photographs I took. I was trying to get a different perspective and think it turned out pretty good. I like the dramatic effect that getting a low angle has created.

I am looking forward to our next class and look forward to practising some new skills.
Well that is it for this entry. Thank you for reading.
